Instructional media is an important instrument for teaching and learning. The researcher has led the good points of the programmed instruction and cartoon, to make the cartoon programmed instruction, and use it as teaching and learning instructional media. The purposes of this research were to 1) development of Cartoon Programmed Instruction in Social Studies Subject on The Australia Continent for Mathayomsuksa 3 Students. 2) to compare learning achievement between the experimental group for using the Cartoon Programmed Instruction and the control group for using the conventional method. The samples were 70 Mathayomsuksa 3 students of Wathuaychorakee Withayakom School, Muang District, Nakhon Pathom Province during the second semester of 2000 academic year. They were using single stage cluster sampling assigned as an experimental group of 35 student for using Cartoon Programmed Instruction ,and a control group of the same numbers,using the conventional method. The treatment duration was five periods with 50 minutes each.The instrument consisted of :1. Cartoon Programmed Instruction in Social Studies Subject on the Australia Continent for Mathayomsuksa 3 Students, 2. Conventional Lesson Plans, 3.Learning achievement testing.The data were statisfically analized by using arithmetic mean (X), standard deviation (SD) and t-test through SPSS for windows. The results of the study were as the following : 1. The efficiency of Cartoon Programmed Instruction in Social Studies Subject on The Australia Continent for Mathayomsuksa 3 Students is 94.91 / 83.23 2. The students achievement from using Cartoon Programmed Instruction (X=19.63) and that from conventional method (X=18.69) were no statistically different at ? =.05
